Outpatient Forensic Psychology Post Doctoral Program

Overview

The Outpatient Forensic Psychology Post-Doctoral Training Program is a full-time, year-long, organized experience designed to provide the Psychology Resident with advanced training in Forensic Psychology. Upon completion of the training program the Resident will have satisfied all of the requirements for certification as a Forensic Examiner in the Missouri Department of Mental Health and for licensing as a Psychologist in the State of Missouri. The Resident will be offered supervision, training, and hands on experience to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to work as a professional Forensic Psychologist.

Program Information

Experiences include working directly with forensic clients, attorneys, detention centers, the Department of Parole and Probation, the DMH Forensic Mobile Team, and the criminal courts. Under supervision of a Certified Forensic Examiner, the Resident will complete evaluations and offer testimony for the courts addressing competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, presenting issues, sexual violent predator status, and other related matters. The Resident is expected to offer treatment and consultation services to inpatient forensic clients on a limited basis.  A minimum of 25% of the Resident’s time will be spent in direct client contact.

Professional Development

The Psychology Resident will present at a hospital-wide Grand Rounds, attend the hospital Ethics Committee, and present at monthly readings seminars. The Resident will have the opportunity to attend bi-weekly Grand Rounds and Case Conferences.

Supervision

A minimum of two hours per week of individual supervision is provided for the Resident. Primary supervision will be provided by Certified Forensic Examiners. Additional supervision is available from members of the Psychology Department at Center for Behavioral Medicine. Residents also receive a minimum of one hour group supervision each week. The Postdoctoral Training Director provides formal evaluations of the Resident after six months and at the completion of the Postdoctoral Training.
